18/07/2021

The North Coast 500 has been named as the UK and Ireland’s favourite road trip.

A new study found that the scenic 500-mile route around the far north of Scotland had almost 600,000 web searches in a year – 10 times as many as its nearest rival. The North Coast 500 is hugely popular among campers, with many campsites along the route.

In second place is the Wild Atlantic Way on Ireland's west coast, which had 62,200 searches in a year. The scenic drive of the Ring of Kerry is in third place. The circular route around County Kerry was searched for 50,600 times in a year.

The Californian adventure, Big Sur, was found to be the most searched for road trip in the world, with an annual search volume of 7,445,000. In second place was Big Sur’s neighbour, Route 66.

The research was carried out by driving licence course company, Zutobi and is based on analysis of the number of annual searches globally and domestically.
