50th anniversary celebrations for Devon Premier Park

27/02/2023

First opened in 1973, by Gordon and Thelma Glynn, Widdicombe Farm Touring Park celebrates a major milestone in 2023, 50 years in business.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary, the adult-only touring park on the English Riviera will be hosting a special weekend of entertainment this June. The event, taking place from 1-4 June, is planned as a celebration and also the perfect opportunity to welcome many of the regular guests who have helped make it all possible, and to welcome new guests to the high-quality campsite.

Widdicombe Farm originally started with just camping in one field at 25p per person per night. Over the years many developments have taken place to lead to the top-class campsite there is today. The most recent change, in 2022, has seen the completion of a new, large and dedicated reception, including a shop, at the top of the newly designed entrance and driveway.

Commenting on their 50 years in business, Gordon says he is "very proud of his non-profit making business" - a phrase he always says at the end of a bingo evening. Guests think this is so funny that it has become a catchphrase commonly shouted out by regular visitors.

Both Gordon and Thelma are delighted to now be in a position to really enjoy the fruits of all their labours, meeting old friends, regular guests and meeting new ones, which brings great pleasure to them both. Chris, Liz and Sandie are now carrying on with Gordon and Thelma’s dreams, keeping their same vision and work ethics. Even so, Gordon and Thelma both remain dedicated and actively involved even after 50 years!
