Cumbrian Coastal Route 200 showcases 'hidden' Lake District

31/08/2022

A coastal road trip showing off the lesser-known side of the Lake District was launched last year. If you haven't yet explored it, we have all the information, and an ideal campsite to stop off at along the route.

The Cumbrian Coastal Route 200 (CCR 200) stretches through Cumbria from Morecambe Bay in the south to the Solway Firth in the north. The route takes in two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and various nature reserves, as well as other attractions like secluded beaches and castles.

A 32-mile stretch of England’s Coast Path, between Whitehaven and Silecroft beach, is also included within the route. The CCR 200 route aims to open people’s eyes to all the hidden gems they may not be aware of, particularly along the stunning coastline.

The road trip is aimed at campers of all kinds - including those in motorhomes, campervans, caravans and tents - and has been split into five sections that can each be done in a day, with itinerary ideas and a mix of campsites to choose from.

Where to stay:
Less than five miles from the route's halfway point of Ravenglass, is Shepherd's Views Holidays. There is a selection of full serviced hardstanding or grass pitches and a large grassed area for camping. There are two unisex toilet and shower blocks including a new block for 2022 containing self-contained shower rooms. Scafell Pike, Wastwater and the western Lake District are all a short drive away.
