Spotlight on: Elie Holiday Park, Fife

05/01/2024

There are two things I have a preference for when going on holiday: Scotland, and the coast. So, if you put those two things together, for me it’s holiday perfection, and Elie Holiday Park did not disappoint.

This award-winning site is nestled behind a wide expanse of dunes, on the Fife coast, about 13 miles south of St Andrews. Step over the dunes and a vast sandy beach is right there, plus there are many more along this stretch of scenic coastline, as well as great attractions close by – St Andrews, Elie Ness Lighthouse, the Isle of May National Nature Reserve, a not-so-secret secret bunker… the list goes on.

Leaving the main A917, you drive for about a mile between fields and woodland until you reach the site – I really felt like I was leaving the fast-pace world behind. Touring pitches have hard gravel bases with grass between, and all come with electric hook-up. There is no extra charge for awnings, dogs are welcome, and some pitches have a partial sea view. There are toilet and shower facilities, a laundry room and shop. Any children will love the impressive play area complete with sailing ship and palm trees, and the games room.

I really appreciated the on-site bar, café and restaurant, meaning I didn’t have to venture far for food. Takeaway is also available, and evening entertainment runs throughout the season.

There’s lots available at Elie, but it isn’t noisy and people seeking a calmer pace, like myself, can enjoy woodland walks, look for wildlife and enjoy stunning views from the coastal path. Days can be spent appreciating the beauty of this part of Scotland, safe in the knowledge that you can return to site and sample a tasty menu in the restaurant or relax with a coffee from the café. I then enjoyed walking the beach as the sun went down – you can’t beat a bit of fresh sea air!
