Spotlight on: Exe Valley Caravan Site

If you’re looking for adult-only tranquillity in a stunning natural location then I’d recommend this site without hesitation.

I really enjoy walking and being by the water, so the fact that you can pitch up beside the River Exe and within the Exmoor National Park, means Exe Valley is perfect.

For pitches, you can choose between grass and hardstanding, either beside the river or the mill stream – the site’s owners live in the historic working watermill here. There are 47 pitches with 18 hardstandings and electric hook-up is available. There is a motorhome waste point, toilets, showers, washing up and laundry facilities, all of high quality. There’s also a well-stocked shop and free WiFi. Dog owners will appreciate the dog wash – much needed after a day exploring the national park!

If you have a dog, or just enjoy a gentle stroll, the beautiful walk through the site along the river and down to the pretty weir (where dogs can explore off the lead) is an added bonus of this already great location. On the subject of walking, Exmoor offers trails galore, from short strolls to all-day routes and you can access walks direct from Exe Valley.

Within walking distance of the site are pubs and a bus stop, so you can rest weary legs if you have done lots of walking. You can also just relax on site keeping an eye out for the many wildlife visitors which include deer, kingfishers and a variety of other birds.

If you did want to explore further afield, Dunster Castle is a 20-minute drive and the Somerset coastline just a further five minutes after that. Under the care of the National Trust, the ancient castle has a working Victorian watermill, a terraced garden with subtropical plants and Grade II listed parkland.
