Spotlight on: Red Kite Touring & Lodge Park, Powys

04/02/2026

With beautiful valley views, Red Kite is a five-star, adults-only, south-facing site, ideal for exploring both coast and countryside.

Closest to the site, Clywedog Reservoir and Hafren Forest deserve a visit, and red kite feeding centres are close by, too. Further afield you have the option for days out within the Snowdonia National Park or the Brecon Beacons, and it is only 40 minutes’ drive to the coast.

The park is laid out into four terraces with a total of 62 pitches, with 10 Premium pitches located on the top terrace. All pitches on the site are gravel hardstanding and fully serviced with 16A electricity, fresh water connection, grey and brown water disposal, free WiFi and piped television.

The bonus of the Premium pitches is the addition of an extra-large pitch with grassed area, upgraded WiFi capable of streaming, and hedgerows between pitches for added privacy. Late arrivals can be accommodated.

Red Kite’s toilet block holds ‘Loo of the Year Platinum’ status and it is easy to see why. There is underfloor heating throughout, large rainfall showers with adjustable temperature control, an accessible wet room, a laundry room and a dishwashing room with washing-up liquid provided.

Within the site grounds are dog walking areas, a separate fenced-off dog exercise area and two ponds, one a coarse fishing pool with fishing peg areas, the other a pond where dogs can swim. The footpaths around the ponds make a great place to walk, and not just with pets.

The handy dog wash room with dryer is ideal for any muddy paws from wet weather walking (or pond swimming!). Red Kite also has a small shop selling essential groceries and motorhome supplies.

You can walk from the site into Llanidloes in 20 minutes. This pretty town has plenty of places to eat, as well as shops for groceries or gifts. It is also nice to see the distinctive, timber-framed market hall in the town centre, the only surviving one in Wales.

To stretch your legs, there are pleasant walks along the River Clywedog, and the Severn Way skirts the park for longer walking options.
