Spotlight on: Widdicombe Farm Touring Park, Devon

26/07/2018

Widdicombe Farm Touring Park is ideally located for exploring the English Riviera of Torbay.

Situated just off the A380 bypass, Paignton and Torquay are close by. This strictly adults only site has 218 spacious pitches all with EHU ranging from standard to premium. Each premium pitch boasts its own chemical waste emptying facility. They are arranged in a series of terraces, most of them overlooking the lush Compton Valley and Dartmoor beyond.

The facilities are first-rate. There is a quaint little restaurant, separate bar which hosts regular entertainment and a shop on site. The toilet blocks are immaculately clean with extraordinarily spacious shower cubicles, some containing a hand basin. There are separate laundry and dishwashing facilities. There is WiFi available for an extra £5 per day.

The local bus service is a 30-minute walk away but the site does lay on a minibus service running daily Monday to Saturday inclusive which goes to Paignton bus station, as long as there is the demand for the service. If you are planning on cycling it is worth noting that the entire area is full of some very challenging hills.

Preston seafront in Paignton is within an hour’s walk. The National Trust owned Compton Castle is a 20-minute walk away and Occombe Farm, a working organic farm, restaurant, farm shop, gardens and visitor centre is a similar distance. Torbay and beyond abounds with activities and entertainment catering for all ages and tastes.

It is one of England’s premier tourist resorts and there is always something happening. The elegant resort of Torquay, with its hotels and palm trees lies at one end of the picturesque bay and the famous fishing port of Brixham is at the other. The famous Paignton Zoo is close by as are the prehistoric caves at Kents Cavern and the craft village at Cockington Court. It is possible to purchase a daily or weekly bus ticket to explore the whole area.
